English Afternoon Tea

Join us in the lounge in the winter time or on the deck during summer for a traditional English afternoon tea.

Scones served with preserves or lemon curd and Devonshire cream, followed by a selection of cakes and shortbreads.

Enjoy a selection of teas by Twinings of London or freshly pressed coffee. In summer time, relax by the pool with a glass of traditional lemonade.

For that special occasion, why not hold a tea party with a selection of savouries, sandwiches, scones, baked goods, tea breads and dessert cakes.

Recipes For Traditional Cakes from English Counties

Hereford Brandy Snaps

Great for parties as a dessert treat, brandy snaps were originally sold at fairs in England.

Ingredients
3oz butter
4oz sugar
4oz black treacle or molasses
4oz flour
½ teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon brandy
1 teaspoon lemon juice

Melt the butter, sugar and black treacle or molasses together in a saucepan and leave to get cold. Set oven to 350 degrees F.

Stir the flour, ginger, brandy and lemon juice into the treacle mixture and combine very well. Drop teaspoons of the mixture on to a well greased baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes until golden.

Allow to cool slightly, then roll each one round the well buttered handle of a wooden spoon to form rolls before they set. The easiest way to do this is to bake the brandy snaps in very small batches. Allow to cool completely and serve filled with whipped cream flavoured with brandy.
